MARCH 2021: LIONS AND LAMBS

They say that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, which certainly seems true enough of March 2021.

The beginning of the month saw such ferocious winds roaring around my little cottage that I cowered deeper under the covers, wondering if my roof might still be there in the morning. Fortunately it always was.

And yet the end of the month gambolled out gently, bringing weather docility, with mild temperatures, and gleaming sunshine that was most welcome after such a long, bleak stretch.

I very much feel that the sentiment also sums up my pandemic experience as a shopkeeper. I went into Lockdown One feeling bullish and fierce, but after a seemingly relentless battering from the Covid19 Storm, I’m trotting out of Lockdown Three feeling beleaguered, but becalmed. I guess it’s an acceptance that there are factors in life beyond my control, and the weather and global pandemics are very much out of my hands.

The most important thing is that we’ve withstood the tempest and come out the other side. The lion in me is very much looking forward to getting my teeth into April, and the lamb within has found peace with adjusting to running a business in uncertain times. It is what it is, and I remain grateful to all who have supported me in every way throughout the past 12 months.
